The Surrency Ghost

Now for the fun part.

Georgia has a ghost story that dates back more than 150 years, and unlike many modern haunted-house tales, this one was actually reported in newspapers at the time.

In the early 1870s, the home of the Surrency family in the tiny South Georgia community of Surrency, Georgia, became the center of a bizarre series of reported incidents.

According to accounts published at the time, objects allegedly moved on their own, beds were overturned, windows were broken and strange activity continued inside the house.

The story became so well known that reporters actually traveled to Surrency to investigate.

And here's where it gets really interesting:

In December 1872, The Weekly Constitution published an article titled “The Ghost at Surrency's.” The reporter described traveling to the home and speaking with the family about the strange events they said had taken place there.

So was the house actually haunted?

Well...that's where history ends and legend begins.

The newspaper documented the claims and reported experiences, but it doesn't prove that the cause was supernatural. And that uncertainty is exactly what makes the story so fascinating.
